RunKeeper is great but

My Profile on RunKeeperI do like the RunKeeper and I have tracked many activities with it since I came to the Amsterdam. However, I think it doesn’t have many necessary features that every service should have these days. And I think many old users suffer from some of these drawbacks, and they are maybe thinking about replacing it with another service. I read many times on the Internet that the RunKeeper is great but we are considering to move to another service for following reasons. I wish they spent more times on their product. I am not saying that they don’t put effort into it; however, as a user I think they are a bit lazy and satisfied about the product that they already have and they don’t feel the needs for making it better. In fact, this is just a personal opinion with hopes to make the lovely RunKeeeper even better. I asked this question on the Quora to increase the chance of participation and availability.

Although they have recently updated their iPhone and Android app, but I hardly find big changes in at least in the Android App. They look better than the earlier version but that’s it. Yesterday, they put the new Beta version of RunKeeper for Android (3.1) and I think they add some new features but not really useful. Maps improvement is very good but the Night Mode is something fancy and unnecessary in my point of view. Of course, people exercise at night but do they need Night Mode. If you tracking your activities outside probably you need your mobile light, and if one tracks an indoor activity he/she will not do it in the dark room? I have pointed out because I believe they should change their point of view to keep the RunKeeper great as always! :)

I always admire Ubuntu for its nice Wallpaper, and I didn’t know that everyone can submit their photos. Yesterday, I read something about the Quantal Quetzal Wallpaper Contest which is inspiring for me.
I started to search in my photos for proper wallpaper and I choose this one. That would be great if they accept it.

New Theme

I changed my website theme. Since I decided to have personal site, I spent lots of time on finding nice and simple theme with static vertical sidebar. I have searched everywhere from Themeforest, elegantthemes and bunch of free themes on the Internet.

Finally, I found Hum by Daryl Koopersmith as a child of famous TwentyEleven. It is responsive, it has static left-hand side sidebar, its visual effects are nice. I like the way it represents comments and …

Football match predictions

As a Data Mining Technique final assignment at VU University Amsterdam, we had to predict football match between some national teams with respect to 5 years of historical data between them.
I found many methods on the Internet for this purpose, and also I asked three questions on Quora to get more information about this topic and I got one great paper about the topic and some simple ideas and methods. Here the list of questions that I asked:

I decided to choose the Mayer model as a main model. Maher tried to find attack and defense powers of each teams from historical data but his model is really complex. In my case I should find almost 800 parameters to build the model so I decided to find quite simpler model. Fortunately, Dixon simplified Maher model by neglecting different attack and defense powers for each team by combining the home and away matches data. Continue reading

More Social Wikipedia

I think Wikipedia should became more social. First of all, I think Wikipedia should add some sharing functionality to their system. Many people read Wikipedia everyday, we read about scientific materials, we read about celebrities, we get interesting biographical information, we can found best introduction reading in every topic in Wikipedia. But why we can’t not share them as easy as Quora. The power of sharing stuffs on the Internet is amazing. I don’t know how much traffic Wikipedia has already and what is the biggest source, but I can certainly said one of the top traffic sources is Google which helps people to find Wikipedia article, but it is too old-fashioned. I don’t know why Wikipedia doesn’t use Twitter and Facebook to increase its traffic and also its article quality just like Quora does. Wikipedia can add: Tweeting a page, Tweeting an edit by users.
These two simple sharing functionality can really change Wikipedia. Today, asking question, answering question, up-voting answer in Quora are all tweet-able, and actually they are proudly tweet-able. Continue reading
